Geography (0460)

|jēˈägrəfē|: the study of the physical features of the earth and its atmosphere, and of human activity as it affects and is affected by these, including the distribution of populations and resources, land use, and industries.

Geography is a very content-heavy topic, the bulk of it relies on case studies. However, the rest is just common knowledge/ logic so take some comfort in that.

I studied all the topics, but I personally prefer human geography so I studied population and settlement in detail. As you only need to do 3 out of 6 questions for the main paper, I suggest you study 5/6 topics in depth (to be safe), and briefly remember the general details for the rest for P2 and P4.

I divided the topics into my own little segments:

  1. Population
  2. Settlement
  3. Plate Tectonics
  4. Weathering
  5. Weather and Climate
  6. Ecosystems
  7. Tropical storms, Flooding, Drought
  8. Rivers
  9. Coasts
  10. Agriculture
  11. Industrial Systems
  12. Energy & Water, Pollution

  1. Great notes, your effort is much appreciated. I also wondered if you had any tips or revision material for Paper 2 and 4.

    • Paper 2 & 4 are quite hard to study for- it’s based on your knowledge of the course but involves a lot more logic basically. Just go to xtremepapers.com and do as many practice papers as you can, they tend to come up with similar questions every few years!

  2. Just asking, how long did it take you to make each set of these notes for each subject? Also, what grades did you achieve?

    • Well it took me about 8 hours a day/ 3 weeks to make all the notes that you see here! (Haha whilst studying for mocks) it took me a little longer to take pictures of them and upload them tough…😛
Ummm A* for the subjects with notes here🙂 Top in the World for International mathematics, and A for first language Chinese (haha language).

  3. Other than these revision notes what did you do that caused your great marks? btw thank you very much for this website and your a great inspiration for getting those 7 A* congratss😀

    • Hey um. Did some past papers, mostly just studied and did quite a few sets of notes over the two years. Don’t worry – as long as you work hard and persist it’s not unconquerable – good luck!

  4. heyy🙂 any tips for revising for the map skills paper?? im trying to find past papers – but none of them have the map cause of copy right problems:/ how did you revise for it?

  5. Hi Ruru
Help!!! I am unable to download your notes on Topic 12 Energy & Water, Pollution. Unlike the other topics, this one had no link showing your notes. Can you please re-post it? I had no problems with all the other topics, only this last one. Many thanks for generously sharing your notes! You are an angel indeed🙂 Thank you very much.

  6. Hey,
I think your website is very helpful. I see that you came up with the idea as a motivational tool while studying. Well, same with me. As I am taking the IGCSE Geography exams in May 2016, I decided to create my own website (igcsegeography.wordpress.com) to make my revision accessible to everyone. The website is still in the construction phase, but if you like you can include any of the materials on your website to help more people with their revision. Especially, since I have a lot more case studies that may be useful to your readers.
And thanks again for your great effort.

  7. Hey Ruru,
Your notes are amazing, they’ve helped me a lot! However I can’t open the Energy one, and it does not show any link. Can you repost it? Thanks!
